Applications : Etomidate works by enhancing the action of the neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), leading to CNS depression, which produces the anaesthetic effects. However, it can cause side effects like myoclonus (muscle twitching), nausea, and adrenal suppression if used long-term. It’s generally not used for prolonged sedation due to these risks.
